TOMB FIGHTERS
OVERVIEW
Tomb Fighters is an exploration board game set in a mysterious Egyptian tomb. Each player plays an explorer who will have to use their unique skills in order to get as much wealth as possible. But be careful, they will have to leave the tomb alive to enjoy their loot, and reaching the exit will not be easy as they’ll have to face each other but the tomb itself.
CHALLENGE & APPROACH
As an exploration game, I had to make sure that players would want to explore each room of the the tomb. To encourage this behavior, I randomly scattered treasures throughout different rooms of the tomb. However, while there may be riches in multiple rooms, the quantities differ: the deeper they go, the more treasure players will obtain. But the dangers will also obviously increase.
It was also important for me to provoke interaction between the players in order to prevent everyone from dispersing and playing in their own corner. I implemented two game mechanics to meet this need. First, the duel. If two players are in the same room, then a duel takes place and the winner wins part of the loser’s loot. Then, the traps they may encounter can modify the level design for all players, thus impacting their gameplay.
Finally, although they can try to anticipate their move as much as possible, some luck is essential. This is the reason why movements are made using dice. The player can, however, try to control luck by rolling several dice and choosing the one they want or by using their unique skill.
THE RESULT
Tomb Fighters is a quick funny game offering anticipation and confrontation challenges
for players in an immersive universe.
